About the workshop
Janusz Orlik, an Artistic Associate of Vincent Dance Theatre, (working with Charlotte Vincent since 2002) will lead this workshop.
The workshop will focus on Vincent Dance Theatre's signature practice: partnering skills and structured improvisation, followed by a series of choreographic tasks to find meaning in movement. and practice exploring writing and the translation of words and feelings into gesture and simple movement phrases. Their experience working intergenerationally will threaded through the workshop so that all tasks and exercises are CPD for those facilitating intergenerational projects.

About Your Workshop Leader
Janusz Orlik, after graduating from ballet school in Warsaw became a student of Brucknerkonservatorium Linz (AT). During his studies he became a founding member of x.IDA Dance Co. and performed in productions created by Olga Cobos, Peter Mika, Catherine Guérin, Rebekka Murgi, Nicole Caccivio, Charlotte Vincent.
Since 2002 Janusz has been a regular member of Vincent Dance Theatre (GB). Simultaneously, Janusz creates his own choreographic works, including “Exérèse monobloc” (2004), “and thy neighbour as thyself” (2006), “Live on stage” (2008), “The Rite of Spring” (2011), “Insight” (2013) awarded by The Minister of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland for Janusz Orlik and Joanna Leśnierowska for the best choreography granted as part of Polish Dance Platform 2014.
His latest work “Mute” premiered in 2018. In 2007 he performed in “nothing” by towarzystwo gimnastyczne and in 2009 in “Happy” by Nigel Charnock, in which he was also involved as choreographer's assistant. In 2010 he joined Kwaad Bloed Company (BE) performing in “Forces”. In 2011 he joined Nigel Charnock + Company (GB) to create new work “Ten Men”. In the same year he collaborated and performed in “Reconstruction” by Joanna Leśnierowska and in 2012 with Gary Clarke (GB) performing in “Horsemeat”.
In 2013 he began a collaboration with Daniel Landau (IL). In 2014 he performed in “… (Rooms by the sea) from the series Exercises in Looking” by Joanna Leśnierowska, in “Unintended Consequences” by Sjoerd Vreugdenhil, “Back to bone” by Rosalind Crisp and “Collective Jumps” by Isabelle Schad. In 2015 he performed in an excerpt of “Shirtology” by Jérôme Bel. In 2016 he worked as a movement director in “Ojczyzna” (Polish Theatre in Poznań), collaborated and performed in Polish-Brazilian production “Yanka Rudzka Project: Leavining”. In 2018 he collaborated and performed in Polish-Brazilian-Georgian-Armenian production “Yanka Rudzka Project: Polyphonies”.
Other works include “High heels” for the ballet ensemble of The Opera House in Kraków, “Alpha” for The Contemporary Dance Scene in Poznań, “Adagio” for the Musical Theatre in Poznań. As well as performing Janusz delivers dance workshops in various venues and dance schools in Poland and abroad. Scholar of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland in 2011 and 2018.

Covid 19 Safety
The health, safety and comfort of our audiences, colleagues and performers are very important to us.
Before you arrive
We have a number of measures in place to ensure your comfort and safety.
Enhanced hygiene procedures are in place which include thorough cleans between performances and our ReBels training sessions. We have increased the circulation of fresh air throughout the building so it might be cooler than you are used to. You may want to bring an extra layer, just in case. Hand sanitising stations are positioned throughout the public spaces for audience members and ReBels training members to use and we ask that you do so frequently.
We continue to monitor the latest guidance from the UK Government and the team here will continue to wear face coverings in all areas of the theatre.
When you arrive
Whilst we encourage members of the audience to continue to wear a mask we understand that more and more people are making the decision not to so we would like audiences to be aware that people sitting around them may not wear a mask throughout. If you are concerned about this please get in contact with our Audience Experience Manager Robyn who can discus options for seating that will help you feel more safe.
The Barbican team will all wear face coverings / shields (unless medically exempt) and are also regularly lateral flow tested. This includes our practitioners, core team, the team front of house and back stage.
Social Distancing
Barbican Theatre largely programmes one night performances, with a capacity of either 110 or 140. Due to this programming model at present we are unable to offer socially distanced performances. Please get in contact if you would like to discus seating options for any upcoming events and where possible we will find you an area in the auditorium with the most distance for other audience members.
