Promenade performance
The show is a promenade performance which means there is no seating. It is performed throughout the bottom floor of the Melville Building in Royal William Yard. Be prepared to move through scenes, queue for a voucher, join the protest or dine in the ‘roof top restaurant’.
The entire experience is undercover and on one level, suitable access for all (please see below for additional assistance for those with mobility issues)
The show will last approximately 1 hour 15 minutes with no interval.
Please be aware performances contain flashing lights and haze/smoke.
The nearest toilets are in Seco Lounge.
Audience comfort / what to wear / cloakroom
While all performances are undercover as this is an old building with no modern insulation or heating. Therefore we really do recommend all audience members dress warmly, as being in the building isn’t much warmer than being outside.
CIVIC will be a walk back through your heyday. As well as being warm you’re invited / encouraged to wear clothing to match your favourite decade for this most memorable occasion. Here are some suggestions.
- 60s fine dining in the civic centre restaurant
- 70s office workers
- 80s double denim/ labourers
- 90s time to dance
- 00’s celebration of who you are.
There will not be a cloak room available so please ‘pack lightly’ and wear shoes you can bear to walk in for over an hour minutes! Perhaps leave those shiny stilettos from the 80’s at home this year!
Acccessibility
If you are in a wheelchair or require mobility / additional assistance please contact our House Manager on info@barbicantheatre.co.uk or call 01752 267131 and they can discuss ways in which we can assist you to ensure your experience is enjoyable and comfortable.
Dogs
Dogs (except guide dogs) are not allowed entry to the Melville Building This is part of the licence conditions of using the space for the event.
Small children
Children over 18 months require a child ticket. Parents / carers are asked to be considerate of other audience members and the cast and should their child become upset or agitated they should leave the performance area and not return until the child has settled.
The performance is suitable for family viewing, with an age guidance of being suitable for ages 8 and up.
Food and drink
Steel Brewery (in The Melville Building) will have a selection of their brewery fresh beers on tap, red wine and prosecco sold as mini bottles, pre canned gin & tonic and Sanpellegrino soft drinks available before and after CIVIC performances.
And of course there are a number of other restaurants and bars in Royal William Yard. Check them out here
And lastly… we hope you enjoy the performance. If you do take any pictures (please no flash photography) we’d love you to share them with us on on Facebook, Twitter, & Instagram using the tag #FuseCivic. We’d also love to hear what you thought of the performance on these pages too.
