This week, we are beyond proud to celebrate some of our incredible Rebels who have released self-produced singles! Seeing our artists create, produce, and share their own music is truly inspiring, and we couldn’t be more excited to shine a spotlight on their work.
In this special feature, we’re taking a closer look at these tracks, hearing from the artists about their creative processes, and sharing how you can listen and support them.

IRIS - Modern Men
IRIS describes her latest single as a mellow yet angry statement on the subtle ways women experience sexism in the music industry. The song is rooted in personal experiences, shedding light on the subtle and often dismissive and underhanded compliments young women often find themselves on the receiving end of. The track blends an alternative take on pop with hints of folk, channeling a quiet yet firm defiance that asserts independence without the need for confrontation.
“It's angry in a mellow way that says, I don't need to fight back, I don't owe you my time”
IRIS first performed the track in one of the Rebels sessions, unsure of the legs the song had to stand on, and it was so well received by the group - despite being the first time she had shared any of her work with fellow creatives - “that moment really helped to push me to get this track recorded and out in the world”
“It's given me a confidence I didn't know I needed. It also made me realise, I have to start actually doing stuff with my music! I have to record it and produce it and promote it and actually do it if I want something out of it. The practitioners and Rebels members really helped me to realise that it doesn't get done unless you just get on with it”
IRIS is currently working on her debut EP, Modern Men, with the title track leading the way. This passion project has been months in the making and is set to release on streaming platforms in June. Keep an eye out for more music coming soon!

Days In The Haze feat. Ellathea - Starboard
“One to bop to in the car along the coast.”
Inspired by a blend of emotions and experiences, Starboard began as a poem about Daisy’s late aunt’s farm in Cornwall.“I was missing her a lot and thought describing it would make me feel better”. Writing about the farm and its surroundings helped the grieving process, while the chorus takes on a broader meaning - helping friends get out of a dark place. The phrase “turning away from the wind” symbolises breaking free from stagnation, and “sparrows at a windowsill” signifies change. The track is ultimately about helping someone through a difficult time, especially in isolation. This indie rock track weaves in singer-songwriter influences, with its driving forces coming from electric guitars, trumpets and drums.
Their favourite part of the process was recording; adding all the right filters and EQs, especially “cheering when we got a gnarly shoegaze filter on the solo guitar”. After spending time perfecting the vocals and experimenting with effects, Days in the Haze (Daisy’s stage name), along with Rebels, R and Iris, found themselves in a very cathartic space shouting into the mic together. Days in the Haze also enjoyed working with Ellathea, whose vocals and second pair of ears were a valuable asset in shaping the song.
Daisy credits Rebels with helping to build their confidence and creativity.
“This track truly wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Rebels. The melody, instruments, recording and producing was all done at a Rebels session. Even feedback and gigs from Rebels performances. Just goes to show how much Rebels aids and strengthens young artists in the city”
Regularly performing at Rebels gigs, Days in the Haze is currently working on their debut EP, with more music and summer shows to come. Keep an eye out on socials for regular updates!
