St Peter & Waterfront

Young People’s Free Classes Fund

For ages 12-25
Fri 27 Nov
- Mon 11 Jan
Weekly from 11 Jan 2021 for 1 year

Our local Councillor, Chris Penberthy and Plymouth City Council have given funding to offer spaces in Barbican Theatres ReBels weekly classes, for 5 young people who live within the St Peter & Waterfront Ward (see map below) for an entire year!

These spaces are available to young people for who involvement in these sort of activities or a programmes would otherwise not be possible due to financial barriers.

Barbican ReBels weekly classes come in two age groups
Ages 12 – 15 (classes Mondays from 5pm – 6:30pm and 7:30pm – 9pm & Tuesdays from 4:30pm – 6pm)
Ages 15 – 25 (classes Tuesdays from 7pm – 8:30pm, Wednesdays from 5:30pm – 7pm and 8pm – 9:30pm)

The next term starts from Monday 11 January and covers things such as comedy sketches, hip hop dancing, beat boxing, urban storytelling, creating films for online, acoustic performing and creating your own junk band (plus many other very cool, fun subjects).

As well as learning new things, our ReBels groups are great fun – you’ll make new friends in a welcoming, non judgemental and safe space. All voices are heard and everyone is welcome.

We also have extra safety measures in place to ensure the wellbeing of our class members and teaching team during the Covid pandemic and beyond. Class sizes are smaller, there are more breaks between sessions to allow for spaces to be cleaned and aired out, and class members work in bubbles within their own ‘marked off’ area in the theatre.

The FREE places are available to anyone who is aged between 12 – 25 (inclusive) and who live within the St Peter and Waterfront Ward as shown on the map below. These free places are for those for who would not ordinarily be able to afford to attend such classes or activites  – it is important to us, Chris and that money is not a barrier to engagement with the arts (and making new frends and having fun).

To find out about what the classes are like check out our ReBels page here

Places will be given on a first come first served basis. This isn’t limited to one space per household so if there are two people within this age group in a family they can both ask for one!

To ask about having one of the FREE places please email James at or call 01752 242018 (please let us know your name, address and date of birth)

Tickets are currently only available for collection from 1 hour before performances begin. They are not currently available for collection from the Box Office at any other times and postage is no longer available. Barbican Theatre recommends e-tickets which can be presented at the theatre on the date of your performance using a smart mobile device (or if you prefer can be printed out) E-tickets are more covid safe and are also much greener due to not being needed to be printed or posted.

Tickets for this event are no longer available.
