It’s 44BC, Ancient Rome. Our hero, Leta has been declared a traitor by the Roman Senate. She is given a punishment worse than death “Damnatio Memoriae” – to be erased from history. Whilst noble Gladiators and infamous Emperors around her are becoming legends, her name will be scratched out and forgotten forever. But with the help from some unexpected muses, she decides to rebel against the Republic. A feast for the eyes and the ears with physical comedy, clowning and original music, WOMANS is a raucous & hilarious tale of the first female resistance.
WOMANS is a fast-paced & physical thematic sequel to our award-winning show, Great Train Robbery, focusing on how women are routinely written out of history.
Developed with support from Arts Council England & Beaford Arts, the show has already toured widely in the UK to venues including Salisbury Playhouse, the Wardrobe Theatre & VAULT Festival to critical acclaim:
Scratchworks is an all-female theatre ensemble from Devon. Using diverse theatrical styles, we create original stories with a unique blend of live music, dynamic movement and farcical comedy.
