Barbican Theatre are committed to supporting local talent and are thrilled to be bringing Cornish theatre company Mundic Nation’s new production The Coastguard to our intimate stage this month. The Coastguard is a one-man show starring Poldark’s John Macneill (he played Jacka Hoblyn in three series of the hit BBC show) Written for John by his wife, renowned writer for screen and stage Marie Macneill who hails from lovely St Just in Cornwall.
This show is about love, family ties, loneliness, and having the courage to take steps to make that much-needed change in your life.
It covers issues like redundancy, erosion of community, the importance of eggs for breakfast, over-development, and robotic nuisance calls – but with beautiful, lyrical writing, a couple of songs, as well as a laugh or two.
Mundic Nation is a writer-led production company based in Cornwall, led by John and Marie Macneill. As well as co-producing Hell Fire Corner by DM Thomas at Hall for Cornwall, the company has made two short films for festival exhibition, and one which was nominated for a Celtic Media Festival Award in 2019. Mundic Nation seeks to connect with audiences who may not normally have access to live theatre, as a result of financial, social, or mobility issues.
