Section 28 and Its Afterlives: Queer Collage Workshop

Come join us in the Barbican Theatre Studio for Section 28 and Its Afterlives: Queer Collage Workshop

Section 28 blighted the lives of LGBTQ+ people across the 15 years it was in force and its afterlives continue to be felt to this day.

Through creative workshops with LGBTQ+ people in the South West, we created a huge collection of creative works. These workshops provided space to reflect on Section 28 and its legacies, engaging with this challenging period of recent LGBTQ+ history in a hands-on, empowering way, by using collage to create a personal response to a range of historical material. See examples here.

We are continuing this work by offering a workshop (2 hours long) at the Barbican Theatre to mark its repeal 21 years ago with Chloe Asker. The workshop will use collage to respond to newspaper headlines and other historical material from the period in a hands-on and empowering way.
