PLEASE NOTE: BOTH PUPPET WORKSHOPS (25 & 26 SEPT) ARE NOW FULLY BOOKED
We’re coming back to St Judes & Mount Gould!
You're invited to join us for a fun and creative day of building and decorating puppets for a parade around the backalley service lanes in St Judes & Mount Gould on the evening of Friday 1 October. (workshop dates below)
The Backalley Puppet Parade
On Friday 1 October Barbican Theatre will return to the cobbled back alleys of St Judes and Mount Gould with another giant puppet parade to entertain the residents from the comfort of their back gardens and back doors! We first brought a giant puppet parade to the area in Sept 2020 and were blown away with the amazing reactions from the brilliant communities. We’ve since taken a new nautical themed parade to the backalleys of Keyham which was also really well received. So we wanted to bring this new parade to St Judes!
Our parade is designed to be watched by local residents from their homes and back gardens, and is about bringing some magic to communities of Plymouth.

FREE Puppet Making Workshops
Working with Ruth and Zenna we’re holding two days of workshops that will be fun and very creative as you decorate and help bring character to our sea themed puppets – then if you want to you can puppeteer your creation in the parade!
Both the puppet making workshops, rehearsals and the parade will be socially distanced.
These are full day workshops running 10am - 4pm with a break for lunch. Participants are asked to arrive at 10am (or as close to then as they can) as we have a full and fun schedule for the day.
The FREE Puppet Making Workshops take place at Barbican Theatre, Castle Street, Plymouth PL1 2NJ on:
Saturday 25 September 10am - 4pm (SESSION FULL - SIGN UP CLOSED)
Sunday 26 September 10am - 4pm (SESSION FULL - SIGN UP CLOSED)
(you will only need to book to attend one!)
The workshops and performing in the parade are suitable for anyone aged 6 and above – encouraging families to get involved (anyone aged under 12 must be accompanied by an adult) If you just want to come along to make the puppets but not be in the parade that’s completely up to you. Similarly if you don’t want to help make the puppets but would like to be a part of the parade we’d love to hear from you. We welcome families who want to come along and create / perform together.
As these are socially distanced workshops spaces are limited and will be offered on a first come first served basis. Sign up to be a part of the workshops and/or the parade here:
