Lockdown #2: Barbican Theatre Update (issued Wed 4 Nov)
Following the latest updated government guidance, Barbican Theatre will temporarily close its doors from Thursday 5 November until December 2nd. After this period of four weeks we will review the situation in line with the latest advice from the UK government. Please see below for details of what we’ll be doing and what services are still being offered by The B-Bar:
ReBels Talent Development Training Classes
We’ve been preparing for a potential second lockdown since we started planning our first term of ReBels Talent Development Training back in August. From Monday 9 November all our ReBels training classes will move online to Zoom. Zoom classes will run at the same time as live classes did. (Classes on Monday 2nd, Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th November will all take place at Barbican Theatre, The Loft or Annabels in the normal way)
Our experienced team of Practitioners have planned sessions with a potential lockdown in mind so they would work in ‘real life’ or digitally. With some members of ReBels already having to isolate and attend via Zoom while ‘live’ sessions were still taking place, we know this can work.
During the March / April lockdown we used YouTube and Zoom to engage with our training members and found this to be a very useful and successful interim method (we’ve had more than 47,000 views of our B-Hive).
So we hope this gives you a little peace of mind that ReBels members will not miss out on training,
Please look out for an email coming this week with details of how the Zoom sessions will work and how to access them. Our ReBels Team have already dropped into to all of this week’s live sessions to update participants and practitioners and answer any questions or requirements they have, including assistance for those who might not have access to Zoom or the internet.
We are also launching Digital ReBels Online Classes from 17 November. These will run for 15 weeks and will remain as online classes via Zoom (even when lockdown ends and classes in our spaces can resume) More info / sign up here

The B-Bar
In line with UK Government regulations, from Thursday 5 November, The B-Bar will only be offering food take-a-way and delivery from The Queens Arms in Tamerton Foliot only. The B-Bar at Barbican Theatre will be closed from 10pm on Wednesday 4 November, with plans to re-open from 3 December (at this time and will of course depend on lockdown ending on 2 Dec). Please see their website and Facebook page for regular updates

COVID-19 Temporary Closure Update
Updated 4pm Friday 12th June 2020
We hope you and your loved ones are safe and well at this difficult time.
Due to the Coronavirus pandemic Barbican Theatre is closed until it is safe to reopen. We will be following government advice at every stage of this journey. We are currently hoping to re-open our doors for our talent development work from September onwards. We’re looking forward to creating work around the city, as social distancing permits, until we can begin programming shows in the theatre.
The health and wellbeing of our community is our highest priority, and during this time we will be doing all we can to support the effort against COVID-19 and protect local jobs.
As a small charity we are in the midst of an enormous challenge and our theatre is under serious threat. A donation of any amount will play a crucial part in securing the future of our enterprising and community-led theatre, and enable us to support artists who’ve lost work.

We will not be open for takeaway or delivery and we will be closed until further notice.
Although the government recommendations allow us to keep trading and we support our local friends who still wish to, we have decided to close until futher notice. We have discussed it with our staff and the consensus is that this is the best decision.
The B-Bar would like to thank to all of their lovely customers, and hope they understand and that you all stay well. They’re still working hard behind the scenes with hopes for a great future so please keep in touch with us and we can’t wait to see you all again soon.

A statement from Barbican Theatre’s CEO Sheila Snellgrove

Barbican Theatre
In light of the UK Government briefing on Monday 16 March, Barbican Theatre, Plymouth has suspended all public performances and training activities with our Barbican Theatre Performance Training, FUSE Diverse Dance, and Thrive until further notice, in order to avoid contributing to the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus).
As the public has been advised by the UK Government to self isolate and avoid clubs, pubs and theatres, we want to do everything in our power to act responsibly. Therefore we will close our doors as of Tuesday 17 March, for 1 month in the first instance. We will be contacting affected ticket-holders and training participants shortly and apologise for any disappointment that the cancellation of shows and training may cause. We are looking at innovative ways that will allow us to keep engaging with our community – so please follow our social media channels:

Twitter
Instagram
YouTube
We are determined to survive, to retain our dedicated team (including a number of freelance artists and crew who rely on us for income), and to get our performances, artistic work and training classes back on track as soon as possible. You can help us by making a donation to the Barbican Theatre registered charity. Any donation – large or small – will ensure that our theatre continues to thrive long after this crisis has passed. This is an ongoing situation and due to this we are unsure of when BTPT will resume. As soon as we have further details you will be informed via email.
We appreciate and understand this is a distressing time for everyone. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact James Woodhams at btpt@barbicantheatre.co.uk and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
