This autumn, Barbican Theatre Plymouth is excited to relaunch its refreshed programme of creative classes for young people aged 8+. Whether you’re a parent looking to nurture your child’s creativity, or a young person ready to take your first—or next—step into the world of performance, Barbican Theatre Youth (BT Youth) offers a welcoming and inspiring place to grow.
Led by professional artists, our weekly sessions go far beyond teaching technique. They’re safe, supportive spaces where young people can build confidence, make new friends, and discover what they’re capable of. With classes tailored by age and experience level, BT Youth is open to anyone with a love for music, theatre, or performance—whether you're just starting out or already planning your future on stage or behind the scenes.
What’s New in 2025?
BT Music (Ages 15+)
For young artists, singers, songwriters, producers, and musicians, this combined class covers everything from songwriting and music production to live performance and recording. It’s a hands-on, collaborative space for emerging creatives to experiment, make noise, and find their voice.
BT Performance (Ages 12+)
Acting, devising, movement, and storytelling come together in this theatre-based training class. It’s the perfect setting to develop stagecraft, build confidence, and explore the power of performance in a supportive, energised environment.
NEW! BT Musical Theatre (Ages 8+)
Brand new for 2025 and on Saturdays, this class combines singing, acting, and movement in two separate age groups. Whether your child is taking their first steps or already loves the stage, they’ll thrive in a space designed for growth, expression, and fun.
BT Masterclasses (Ages 18+)
For adults and emerging professionals aged 18+, our one-off masterclasses offer focused training led by experienced industry experts. Sessions will explore areas like directing, producing, voice work, and even stage combat—ideal for anyone looking to sharpen their skills or expand their practice.
