Queer Chaos! 10 week Course- Tuesdays 6.30-8.30 at The Barbican Theatre

£6 per session / £60 block booking for 10 x week course

‘Queer not as being about who you’re having sex with (that can be a dimension of it); but queer as being about the self that is at odds with everything around it and has to invent and create and find a place to speak and to thrive and to live,’ Bell Hooks.

This ten week course aims to apply a queer lens to the theatrical world and encourage participants to explore and embrace the chaos that ensues when we twist, or ‘queer’ established norms. Throughout the course you’ll look at:

  • What happens when you apply a queer lens and add a queer voice to traditional tales?
  • Queering the form – what happens when we mess with narrative structure and expectations of form?
  • Exploring our own queerness – verbatim story exploration.
  • How do we show queer joy? What does that look like onstage?
  • Questioning queer tropes and creating new ones.
  • The idea of safe spaces and chosen family, for everyone.

And so much more!

Please note that you do not have to identify as queer to enjoy or attend these sessions, but you do need to be open to creating a safe, tolerant environment. We have a zero-tolerance policy to harassment and discrimination, and strive to harbour a safe space for all to creatively share and participate.
