This is an exciting opportunity for someone who believes in the power of creativity to build confidence, skills, wellbeing and connection. You will work closely with our Executive Producer to deliver creative workshops, classes, projects and sharing opportunities, both at Barbican Theatre and in community and outreach settings.

We are a values-led charity committed to inclusivity, creativity and community impact. We nurture talent, amplify underrepresented voices and create opportunities for people to take part, develop and feel a sense of belonging.

    Our values are:

As Creative Practitioner, you will support and deliver creative activity for a wide range of participants. This may include young people, adults, community groups and people who face barriers to participation.

You will help create welcoming, safe and engaging spaces where people feel supported to explore their creativity and take part in meaningful experiences.

    The role will include:

    • Helping participants build confidence, creativity, skills and connection

    • Supporting performances, sharing events and public-facing outcomes

    • Working sensitively with vulnerable young people and adults

    • Helping to remove barriers to participation and respond to access and wellbeing needs

    • Supporting session planning, set-up, attendance tracking, feedback and evaluation

    • Contributing to communication with participants, families, partners and freelancers

    • Supporting wider organisational activity where your skills and capacity are useful

This is a varied and adaptive role in a small, collaborative organisation. We are looking for someone who is happy to combine creative delivery with the practical work that helps programmes run well.

    • Experience of working with underrepresented individuals, groups or communities

    • An understanding of inclusive, person-centred and co-created practice

    • The ability to build positive and respectful relationships with participants

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

    • Good organisational skills and a willingness to support administration, monitoring and evaluation

    • Awareness of safeguarding, professional boundaries, access needs and participant wellbeing

    • A flexible, reliable and collaborative approach

    • A strong commitment to Barbican Theatre’s values

Your creative practice might be rooted in theatre, dance, movement, music, writing, visual arts, digital work or a combination of disciplines. We are open to different creative backgrounds and are particularly interested in people who can bring their own experience, perspective and approach to the role.

Experience in schools, youth work, community settings, wellbeing programmes, outreach, Arts Award, performances or creative learning would be welcome, but is not essential.

    Why work with us?

Barbican Theatre is entering an important next stage of its development. We are focused on building a sustainable, inclusive and welcoming creative organisation that meets people where they are and responds to the needs of our communities.
