Celebrate National Poetry Day in style at Forked in the B-Bar on 3 October 2019 as we welcome three brilliant Boat Poets to share new commissions based on this year’s
theme, ‘Truth’.

Theatre artist and resident writer for Women & the Arts Sophie Dumount alongside fellow boat poet Emmie Readman plus rapper and Tony Tokunbo Fernandez Poetry Prize winning Dauda Ladejobi.

Plus mesmerising multi-instrumentalist lo-fi music from The Diamond Family Archive.

Poets
Sophie Dumont

A writer and artist from Bath. She settled in Bristol this summer after spilling herself all over it on her Boat Poet residency. Sophie let life events during her Creative Writing MA at Bath Spa University infiltrate her poetry, including two break-ups, becoming an aunt and an anniversary of a partner’s death. Boat Poets allowed Sophie to explore her past as a Canoe Coach and discover a new perspective on her grief. Since then she has written her third production for immersive theatre company, Riptide. The binaural video walk through Leeds will be released this autumn. She’s
recently been resident writer for Women & the Arts and created content for Paper Nations’ #WritingForAll campaign

Dauda Ladejobi (Sols)

A Nigerian born poet, rapper and workshop leader from East London. He’s a winner of the Tony Tokunbo Fernandez PoetryPrize 2014 and most recently one of Apples and Snakes Boat Poets 2018. He has performed his poetry at the Rich mix, Barbican, Roundhouse, Edinburgh Fringe 2018 and Camden Fringe 2018. Most recently he was commissioned by Waltham Forest council to write a piece celebrating being awarded the Borough of Culture 2019. He also spearheads the Spoken, Not Stirred team that run a monthly Open Mic night in the Barking Broadway along with running workshops with schools, colleges and community groups.

Emmie Readman

A reveller in words and a frolicker in phrases. Based in Devon, she heads to the sea and the moors to look for any words which might be hiding there. Poetry, for Emmie, is connection to the confusing, the wonderful, the challenging, the absurd, and (topically) to the truth (whatever that is!) She has performed in festivals and spoken word events across the
country (and once, accidentally, in America), has been printed in several anthologies and magazines, and has featured on local radio programmes. She was thrilled to be selected as a Boat Poet in 2018 and is excited to be celebrating National Poetry Day with you!

Music

Laurence Collyer from The Diamond Family Archive crafts a mesmeric live experience by using acoustic guitars and FX pedals, drums, tape delay, loops and bellows, bows, harmonicas, cosmic harps, toys, broken cymbals and Vocals. Creating an evolving sound that holds a unique journey each time it’sperformed.
