Sonny, Rufi and Cal live in a world where they can be anything. Astronauts, movie stars, each other… by dressing up and ‘becoming’. When escapism seems the safest way to live, freedom comes through the masquerade.
However, the morning after a ‘Realness Party’, everything is not as it seems. A brief loss of control has threatened the status quo, and any chance of being ‘normal’ again. Personal and cultural histories are interrogated, scenes reenacted and buttons pushed as we explore what led the hosts to commit a murder.
Inspired by the origins of drag culture, when disempowered members of society began to find strength through impersonating people of status such as businessmen and royalty, ‘Realness’ is a bold, yet intimate show about the lengths we’ll go to to be allowed to express ourselves, and the ferocity with which we’ll protect that freedom.”
