Suzie West joined the Barbican Theatre team in 2018 leading our 4 year FUSE Diverse Dance project, which is funded by Arts Council England.
Suzie project designs and manages residencies, events and workshops, in conversation with the local artists and community groups in the city. The aim is to offer platforms for people to dance, move, explore, share and be creatively curious about fusing their own dance identity with others. The ‘fused’ approach established in the first two years is now being used across the organisation as an interdisciplinary approach so that dance can have conversations with other art forms, places and people.
Each project is carefully facilitated and guided by Suzie and her ReBel lead practitioners to explore the possibilities of co-creation and exchange.
Suzie is a researcher with expertise in partnership pedagogy: observing, challenging and reflecting on the experience of dance in the city, experimenting with ways to build innovative making methods and celebrate diversity.
Suzie continues to build a methodology with the ReBels team and participants that looks afresh at sharing and making dance for everyone , with everyone.
