Matt became a Barbican Theatre Trustee in 2017 and Chair of Barbican Theatre’s Board in February 2018.
Matt is the Head of Health and Safety at The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, he is a Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and has been a safety professional at The Marine Biological Association of the UK, Imperial College NHS Trust and University College London (UCL). Prior to this he trained and worked as a marine biologist in Plymouth.
Over twenty years ago he started working as a theatre practitioner and director at Frenchwoods Festival of the Performing Arts Camp in New York. After 3 summers working there he continued as a freelance director and practitioner, having worked for both the Barbican Theatre and Theatre Royal Plymouth, directing shows on the Barbican, Drum and Lab stages as well as large-scale outdoor devised work. He has been called upon to work as a scientific and magical adviser on a number of shows.
Matt is a founding producer of the Plymouth Fringe Festival which has been running across the city since 2015. Through this and other work with Toast (theatre collective) he is a keen supporter of fringe and emerging artists from the southwest.
