I joined the Barbican Theatre in 2015, first as a participant and then as a Theatre Practitioner and Front of House Team member in 2016. My background is in devising and producing contemporary theatre and aside from my work at the Barbican Theatre, I work as a Practitioner across Plymouth with local theatre companies Beyond Face and The Narwhal Ensemble, and I make my own work with children’s theatre company Above Bounds.
I believe in passing on my own experiences and knowledge through my practice. The Theatre Junction sessions involve a combination of play, ensemble building and developing voice/movement techniques. We usually look at both pre-written scripts and creating our own material. Our work is typically socially engaged- and we have conversations about what matters to young people living in Plymouth in the 21st Century. There are 2 chances to perform to an audience every year, enabling participants to gain the skills needed to work in theatre. There are also chances to work alongside other members of the Theatre, including Jamie Smith (Technical Manager) and James Woodhams (Theatre Administrator), gaining insight into other aspects of the Theatre industry. We work with participants as we would professional actors and many go onto auditioning for Company B Theatre, before becoming professionals in their own right.
